Hey Steph - Happy late birthday!
We have a selzer maker at home - you can add syrup to it for soda. It's not as high-tech as the one you linked - it's basically a bottle with a thing to add a cartridge on top, and a spigot. It works great, cost about $40 if I remember correctly, and hey, there are no plastic bottles or aluminum cans to recycle...
